The following designs are specified according to Yags SciFi ship design rules for the Traveller background. They focus on designs common during the Long Night, when knowledge of high technology was lost following the social and economic collapse at the end of the Ramshackle Empire.

The technology levels covered are TL 9 (pre-interstellar flight) to TL 11 (reliable Jump-1 technology). Most are Terran designs.

Common Ships TL 9 - 11

What follows is a range of ship classes that date to just prior to the Third Imperium. Most are of Solomani origin, and many are now effectively 'public domain', with cheap variants being built in shipyards all over the Imperium.

A diagram showing these ships in scale to each other is available here.

Albatross (TL 9)

A TL 9 intra-system freighter based around an ion drive design and capable of shifting small loads between worlds.

Condor Heavy Lifter (TL 9)

A TL 9 planetary transport designed to ferry cargo between a planet's surface and low orbit.

Condor Mk II Heavy Lifter (TL 10)

A TL 10 planetary transport designed to ferry cargo between a planet's surface and low orbit.

Cormorant (TL 11)

400dt Jump-1 tramp freighter, commonly used by small trade companies around the Solomani Confederation.

Eagle Bulk Freighter (TL 10)

A TL 10 bulk freighter capable of Jump-1 interstallar travel. One of the earliest interstellar traders.

Eagle Mk II Bulk Freighter (TL 11)

The TL11 successor to the original Eagle. Like the previous design, there are many variants.

Heron Freighter (TL 10)

A 100t interplanetary freighter.

Magpie (TL 11)

A 200t interplanetary freighter with a powerful Ion Drive.

Olympus Frigate (TL 10)

A 450t combat vessel designed for in-system defence and escort duty.

Partridge Freighter (TL 10)

A 280t bulk trader.

Shrike Light Freighter (TL 11)

A 300t freighter, noted for its very light hull.

Swallow Fast Freighter (TL 9)

A 140t freighter with an experimental drive.

Zeus Heavy Cruiser (TL 10)

A 2500t heavy combat vessel designed for long range patrols. Heavily armed with missiles and beam weapons.
