My first RPGs were home brewed affairs probably based on the fighting
fantasy novels in the early 1980s. Then it was 1st Edition AD&D
pretty much up until the early '90s, where I was introduced to many
different games and genres including Star Wars, Ars Magica, Recon,
Paranoia and Rolemaster.
After that, I developed Myths which took over from AD&D as the system for my fantasy world The Land of Kythe. By the late '90s, Yags took over from Myths as my system of choice, though I've played lots of Runequest, Cthulhu and Legend of the Five Rings.
Currently, I tend to use my own Yags for most games that I run, since I gain as much enjoyment designing games as I do playing and running them.
Game Systems
These are some original game systems.
- Yags. This is still in active development and has its own site devoted to it. It is designed for both fantasy, modern and SF gaming.
- Myths. No longer in active development, this was an AD&D replacement heavily inspired by the Star Wars system.
Aids
- GURPS Metric. I quite like GURPS, but it is crippled in SF settings by its insistence on using the Imperial system. So I wrote some coversion rules for the original GURPS Vehicles tailored for my campaign at the time.
- Traveller. A current project is to map the worlds of the entire Imperium. And by map, I mean the world surfaces.
- Against the Giants. A conversion of the original AD&D adventure for 3rd Edition.
