Letters from Douwa Downs | Version 1.4 ( 2006/02/05 ) |

Sir Cadfry of Douwa Manor,
Greetings old friend, I hope you are well. First, let me congratulate you on the birth of your daughter. I hope she and her mother are healthy. I was planning on visiting but alas business again conspires against me. It seems that I cannot take my eyes off things for a single day before something goes wrong somewhere. If it is not the miners, then it's the carpenters. If not them, then laborers are demanding pay, or slaves have escaped. I warn you, if your king suggests some grand building project, refuse. Rebellion will be far less of a headache.
However, onto matters more serious. The Uzhada has decided to let me know a bit more about things. I shall endeavor to pass any further knowledge that skulks my way onto you, but for now, this is all that I know.
In some months time, possibly in Larane, you should expect a shipment of goods. At this time I cannot say what they are, all I know is that there will be seven items, rather bulky, coming up by wagon from Aleath. Our mutual friend there should be organising things, and apparently the Uzhada has a new favourite who is bringing further resources to help in this. She is a young woman apparently, a Shek-Pvar, though not one of the Grand Lord's pupils.
These packages are to be moved to Geshte, probably across country - the details have yet to be worked out - and then down river to someplace. I'm not sure where as yet, but it won't be as far as me apparently. I think it will be up the Gomishen, but I haven't been told.
Very shortly you will have another visitor, a priest of our god. His name is Telstith, and you should treat him with extreme caution. He is Amorvrin, and there are plans for him to stay with you for the foreseeable future. I assume that he will find a location beyond your manor, since to hide his presence otherwise would be difficult, if not impossible. My condolences on this, but as always, it wasn't my decision.
Best regards,
Culthrik.
Sir Cadfry of Douwa Manor,
The lady that carries this letter is a member of the High Church of Morgath, and you are to show her every courtesy. You will provide her with everything she asks for, to the best of your ability. She outranks you in every way. All other considerations are secondary.
Your request to see your son has been denied. Do not ask again.
The Uzhada Komchilta.
Sir Cadfry, Bailiff of Douwa Manor,
Greetings sir, and best wishes to you and your family. I have received your goods with a great deal of interest. They are as you promised. I must admit, I am surprised that you could not find markets within Kanday for such goods, but I will not let it trouble me. I am sure our trade is of mutual benefit.
As to your requests for aid, well, to be honest, it seems to benefit us as much as it does you. The Eidel Legion does not often patrol that close to the border, for there was little there for either of our countries.
However, there does seem to be something there now. Our scouts say that there is a high probability of Gargun activity, though no signs of a nest were discovered. We are planning on sending out a larger patrol in order to try and locate any of the vermin if indeed they are there. There have not been any Gargun in these parts for as long as I remember, so I am puzzled as to why they should be there now. They must have come across civilised lands in order to get there, and that requires thought and discipline that Gargun do not normally possess.
I would suggest that you have your King look into things on your side of the border - I would not wish to start a diplomatic incident. Some in the Senate still do not forgive my father, despite the fact that he won the last one. I get the impression however that you do not wish the involvement of your own government. Surely the matter of Gargun is more important than any political concerns? Or am I being too naive?
Anyway, I will let you know the moment we find anything.
