| Black Falls |
Black Falls Chantry in Kanday, is about half a days travel east of Venost, north east of Aleath. To the common traveller, the chantry appears much like a solid stone keep. It is walled, with a collection of small buildings nestled at the base of the keep itself. Standing atop a forested hill, it is well positioned for defence.
The Chantry is dedicated to studying Lyhavi, though there is a small group who are also interested in astrology.
About a quarter of a mile east of the keep is a small village of about fifteen houses, which falls under the protection of the keep. There is a small shrine to Peoni at the village.
The keep has four Masters who are considered to be the Lords of Black Falls. They have formed a council which makes all the decisions, or delegates the job to someone else. The Chantry prides itself on being a meritocracy, with the final decision being left to whomever has the most experience with a given situation.
The Lyhavian Master Seldon Relanthis is effectively master of the Chantry. Though the opinions of all are sought during council discussions, it is his opinion which is generally sought the most, and he is the unofficial lord of the keep. At the very least, the guards and servants see him as their Lord, since some of them have difficulty with the concept of anything other than a feudal heirarchy.
The other masters do not seem to mind this state of affairs, or if they do, then none have had the courage to speak out. Seldon is soft spoken, and apparently willing to listen to other points of view, however 'other points of view' often end up very similar to Seldon's own views by the time he has agreed to them, often without anyone realising until afterwards.
There is a small shrine to Save-K'nor within the outer walls. Beyond that, there are no religious groups based here except for the shrine to Peoni in the village.
Male Human, age 49
A distinguished looking man, with dark, slightly greying hair. He is well dressed, and often looks cheerful or peaceful.
Seldon looks like an aging scholar, dressed often in white or light grey robes, with his white wood staff always at hand.
Seldon is a cheerful and optimistic magus, an extrovert who enjoys politics and intrigue as much as he does the mysteries of magic.
Seldon is on good terms with the Church of Larani, and is sometimes advisor to the King of Kanday, though he keeps such advice to politics and history.
Male Human, age 78
A wrinkled, bald and stooped man in his seventies. He has not withstood the ravages of time well.
Korden is an old man, slow and and careful in his movements. He often dresses in robes of grey or black, lined with silver runes.
Korden argues bitterly whenever there is conference, though he does so merely for the sake of argument, changing his arguments to suit his whim of the moment, and not really caring about the outcome. He is difficult to get on with, but very knowledgeable.
He travelled a lot in his youth, but settled at Black Falls over twenty years ago. He rarely leaves the place, conversing with other Shek-Pvar via written correspondence.
Female Human, age 35
A short woman, with plain looks and a quick mind.
Elain is a woman in her thirties, not particularly attractive, but sharp of mind. She dresses plainly, and is often energetic.
She keeps to herself in councils, and has nothing to do with the mundanes. She is an excellent tutor though.
Male Human, age 47
A tall man with long dark hair.
Thorsa is a tall man in his forties, with long dark hair and an expressive personality.
Thorsa is a mediocre scholar, though is known to have flashes of creative genius when everyone else is stumped.
He has been at Black Falls for about ten years, mostly spending his time studying Astrology and Alchemy, rather than pure Pvaric magic.
Human,
A smart, well disciplined soldier.
Very similar in style to Fhalin's Discoure on Astrology, it is shorter and simpler to read. Though it covers the whole range of Astrological knowledge, it does not go into any of it in great detail.
