Tanwall

Tanwall is a wild country full of thick forests. It borders on Bryteland and Cancha, and shares much of the cultures of those countries. It's language is very similar to that of Brytish.

The main distinguishing feature of the nation is its people reverence for the Animal Powers, strange and inhuman gods who have their own distinct cults. These cults often require human sacrifice and fanatical devotion from their followers. Magic, ritual and drugs keep the people in line.

One obvious aspect of these animal cults are the warriors abilities to take on animal form. These beast wearers are feared even by the Brytish.

Tanwall is not a single political entity. Though the different clans share a desire for independence, there is little love lost between them, and no single king rules the whole country, though such a situation has arisen once before.

The Animal Powers have a strong hatred of the Troll Gods, and trolls are actively hunted by the cults.

The Clans

The people of Tanwall are divided up into seven major clans, as well as a dozen or so minor clans which seem to come and go with the generations.

Three of the clans are concentrated on the coast, and though they are of smallest size by area, they have the greatest population, for the woods here are less dense and the wild dangers of the Powers is weakest. These clans are willing to trade with their neighbours, and ships between Tanwall, Taneith and Canuch are relatively common. The northern coastal woods of Bryteland makes trade with that country hard, and the animosity between these two nations means that in practise trade is officially zero.
