Mortheana

Mortheana is a mythical island off the southwest coast of Jarneyland. It is said to be the home of Igia, the Brytish sea goddess. Few sailors have ever encountered the isle, for it is submerged for much of the time. It is said that the isle becomes visible after a particularly heavy storm, and then only for a few hours.

The legends describe Mortheana as an island covered in a great coral castle, whose battlements encircle a large natural harbour where ships can be docked.

Igia's palace is covered with gold and silver shells, and the roads are pebbled with pearls as large as a man's hand.

Visitors to the isle are quickly apprehended and escorted to the Sea Princess to face judgement for tresspass on her lands. Those who do not show sufficient social talent are thrown in the aquatic dungeons to drown. Those who do are kept as members of her court until after the isle submerges. Any on the island when it sinks are gifted with the ability to breathe water, but loose the ability to breathe air. Escape is necessary before the isle submerges if the visitors are ever to return to land again.

The isle is populated with past visitors and mermen. Legend says that the former become the latter with time.
