Merrik Shire

Merrik is a shire in the Kingdom of Weidany. The shire takes its name from the old Kingdom of Merrik, which dates back to the 8th century. It was the rape of Seaxburh, the daughter of the King of Merrik in 726 which led to the bloody feud between the three kingdoms of Merrik, Angsley and Perrin which finally led to the formation of the Kingdom of Weidany.

The shire capital is Abbyton, which is the seat of power of Ealdorman Madog, head of the House of Erwin. The House is descended from the old Kings of Merrik, and nobles of this blood line are well represented within the shire.

The shire lands are bordered by the Troll Watch and Entwood in the south and west (the Teal River is the official border), and the Meecham Wood to the north.

The central highlands are fertile and well populated, with small farms and hamlets being the norm. Manors tend to be distributed across many settlements, and friction caused by disagreements over which manor a particular farmstead belongs to are not uncommon, though are rarely serious.
