Du Caefa | Version 1.4 ( 2005/08/14 ) |
| Du Caefa |
Du Caefa is the royal seat of power in the Kingdom of Danuch. The name means Black Fortress and refers to the fortified citadel built into the cliff overlooking the city. The citadel's walls are made from black stone, and there is little light to be found within its halls.
The city itself has a population of about nine thousand, most of them employed directly or indirectly by the citadel. The atmosphere in the city is dark and grim. Those who speak out against the rulers often vanish at night, never to be seen again. No lights are permitted in the city after dark, except by the city guards, and harbouring light is punishable by death at worst, a beating and public punishment at best.
Beyond the city walls are the mines, which bring up iron ore for the smiths within the city. Currently this is being turned into weapons and armour for the war against Weidany in Cadwold.
The king sits dead in the halls of the citadel, and has done for two hundred years. The Druids rule the city and the country, and none dare to contest their power. All commands come from the Arch Druid, through the First Circle. Most of them are more interested in the governing of the country as a whole rather than the city. It is to one of the First Circle that responsibility for the city is given. He is known as the High Lord, and he is the visible face of the Druids in Du Caefa.
Compliance with the laws of the city is enforced by the city guard, who are generally well paid and loyal to the current regime.
