The following designs are my own creation for my Neu Swabian League fleet.
The fleet of the Neu Swabian League consists of heavy capital ships, surrounded by a small number of escort class vessels. The entire fleet relies on heavy armour, rather than shield technology, something which has given them the edge in the war agains the Kra'vak.
The side effect of this armour is that the ships tend to be slower than equivalent, shielded, designs. The larger ships make up for this though by having massive engines, honed to high efficiency, producing enough thrust to allow even the capital ships to leave most other fleets standing.
The other defensive strategy of the fleet is the use of fighter screens, with heavy use of interceptors to protect the heavier vessels. Currently, Neu Swabia is suffering supply problems, but once these have been resolved, it is planned to invest heavily in carrier technology in order to field a much denser fighter array.
Escort ships
Arnhem Strike Boat
The Arnhem Strike Boat boat is, apart from fighters,
the smallest vessel which the Neu Swabian League uses
in a military role. It is designed as a multi-purpose
scout/assualt craft, its forward section being taken
up by a mass 2 weapons bay, which can carry sensor
systems, needle beams, C batteries or a single B
battery, depending on configuration. They were
originally designed as needle ships, but after
disastrous results in their first engagement,
must were outfitted with missiles. There are
currently twenty in service.
Fulda Class Corvette
Eilenburg Frigate
One of the lightest Neu Swabian warships, they are
designed to take on over escort class vessels,
making use of the range of their twin A-battery
weapon system. Lacking armour and weapons capable
of damage serious damage to larger vessels, their
strategy is to shelter behind larger ships and take
pot shots at those more in their own league. The
ships currently in active service in this class are
the Eilenburg, the Lindow, the Arnstadt and the
Lenzen.
Delitzsch Class Heavy Frigate
The Delitzsch is designed for fleet action against
enemy escort vessels. Its armour provides limited
protection, but gives it the edge against
unprotected opponents. Though not as fast as the
Eilenburg class, its heavier hull is designed to
provide protection long enough to allow strikes
against cruisers or capital ships, when it can
make good use of its submunition packs. Ships in
this class currently in active service are the
Delitzsch, the Lauchhammer, the Rotenburg and
the Reichenbach.
Naumberg Class Destroyer
Designed to close rapidly with the enemy, and
delivery a hefty punch to larger vessels, the
Naumberg class is one of the latest additions to
the fleet. Armed with a single pulse torpedo, it
has excellent short range capability against even
heavily protected ships, and its three submunition
packs likewise do considerable damage to any craft.
Cruisers
Koblenz Class Destroyer
A heavy destroyer, armed with pulse torpedoes and
A batteries, though some variations on the Koblenz
class carry three pulse torpedoes, skipping on
standard batteries alltogether. Though such a
variation packs a hefty punch, the useful range
is limited, and the craft is left with few side
firing weapon systems.
Lubeck Class Missile Cruiser
The Lubeck Missile Cruiser is a feared part of
the Neu Swabian League fleet. They rarely act
alone, being used in conjunction with larger
vessels. A group of missile cruisers can launch a
salvo of missiles capable of crippling or
destroying several large capital ships. Once
missiles have been launched, their remaining C
battery is of little use, so they generally try
to escape the battle.
Oldenburg Class Escort Cruiser
The Oldenburg Escort Cruiser is, as its name
suggests, designed to escort other ships. In the
many battles against the ESU, the Oldenburg class
is generally used to defend against missile attacks,
relying on interceptor-fighters to destroy enemy
fighters. When escorting outside of a front-line
battle, they are generally used in an anti-fighter
role protecting innocent civilian convoys from
cowardly ESU attacks.
Capital Ships
Berlin Dreadnaught
Richtofen Battlecruiser
The Richtofen class of Battlecruiser is the smallest
of the ships which can be classed as capital ships.
Despite having only moderate armour, it is slower
than other capital ships, being designed to be cheap
and easy to produce in the Rim territories. It's
role is the destruction of escort vessels - though
slow, its stragetic placement in the line of battle
should ensure enemy escort ships come to it.
Bonn Mauler
Dortmund Dreadnaught
Gorlitz Heavy Mauler
The Gorlitz class of Heavy Mauler builds on a
design other navies might classify as a
super-dreadnaught. The Gorlitz is heavily armed
and armoured, being designed for simple, brute
force tactics in support of a more general purpose
fleet. It has three pulse torpedoes, six batteries
of A class beam weapons, and four missiles. It's
sister ship, the Gdansk is similarly armed.
Hannover Mauler
Dusseldorf Heavy Dreadnaught
The Dusseldorf is a massive heavy dreadnaught,
capable of bringing, fighters, heavy weapons
support and command and control into the centre of
the battlefield wherever, and whenever, required.
The Dusseldorfs most prominant armament is her twin
heavy railgun system which is underslung 'beneath'
her. Though it is theoretically capable of doing
massive damage out to 18 thousand kilometres, it
has had some problems with the targetting systems,
rendering the system practically useless during
field trials. These problems now seem to have
been fixed.
Stuttgart Fleet Carrier
The Stuttgart is a massive carrier, heavily armed
and armoured, designed to take its four fighter
groups into the thickest of fighting. Originally
designed with only medium armour, and much weaker
drives, the Stuttgart has recently been upgraded
to heavy armour, plus much more powerful drive
systems.
